Professional ethics serve as a fundamental pillar in healthcare services, including the field of
optometry. Compliance with ethical standards not only reflects professional integrity but also
significantly influences the quality of care received by patients. This study aims to develop a
conceptual reciprocal model between ethical compliance and optometric service performance
in the Indonesian context. The research applies a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method,
following the PRISMA protocol, analyzing 42 scientific articles published between 2013 and
2023 from databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and SINTA. The synthesis
reveals that adherence to professional codes of ethics positively contributes to clinical
communication, diagnostic accuracy, service efficiency, and patient satisfaction. Conversely,
improved service performance also strengthens the awareness and application of ethical
values among optometric professionals. The relationship is shown to be reciprocal rather than
unidirectional, influenced by organizational culture, internal monitoring systems, and
national-level professional regulations. The study concludes that strengthening ethics policy,
incorporating applied ethical education into the optometry curriculum, and implementing
regular internal audits that evaluate both technical and ethical compliance are crucial.
Further field-based research using quantitative or qualitative approaches is recommended to empirically validate the reciprocal relationship model in diverse Indonesian optometric
practice settings.
