Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the conformity of ready-to-wear glasses sales practices with optometric professional ethics from the consumer perspective in Jetis, Bantul. The research employed a descriptive quantitative survey design involving 120 respondents who purchased ready-to-wear glasses in the past 12 months. A structured Likert-scale questionnaire was used to assess four main dimensions of optometric ethics: transparency, honesty, compliance with basic visual acuity examination, and consumer education. The results indicate that price transparency (85% agree/strongly agree) and consumer service (75% agree/strongly agree) were rated positively by most respondents. However, only 35% perceived basic visual acuity examination as properly applied, while consumer education on lens selection received an even lower score of 25%. These findings highlight a significant gap between sales practices in the field and professional ethical standards, particularly in the obligation to conduct visual examinations and provide consumer education. The study underscores the need to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for basic visual checks, enhance optical staff competencies through professional ethics training, and provide consumer educational materials. Thus, this research contributes to the literature on optometric professional ethics in Indonesia and offers practical recommendations for improving optical service quality in semi-urban areas.
