Abstract

Presbyopia is a refractive disorder that occurs physiologically due to aging, characterized by a decrease in the eye's ability to accommodate close-up objects, particularly in individuals over 40 years of age. With increasing life expectancy and the demands of modern visual activities, the need for comfortable and multifunctional corrective solutions is increasing. One emerging innovation is the use of multifocal contact lenses, which can provide visual acuity at various distances in a single lens. This study aims to analyze scientific research trends related to multifocal contact lenses in presbyopia correction using a bibliometric approach. Data were collected from Scopus, PubMed, and Garuda databases from 2013–2023 and selected using the PRISMA protocol. Analysis was performed using VOSviewer software to map keyword relationships, author collaborations, and the distribution of research topics. The results show a significant increase in the number of publications since 2018, with a primary focus on optical design, wearing comfort, and visual performance. Furthermore, there is a trend towards the development of technology-based innovations in lens design. However, research focused on the local context, particularly in Yogyakarta, remains very limited. Therefore, strengthening locally based clinical research and integrating educational institutions and optometry practices is necessary to support the development of evidence-based services tailored to the characteristics of presbyopic patients in Indonesia.
